The Wrong Place is the culmination of a course in the department of Fine Arts at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Sonic ethnography—the focus of the course—is an artistic-scholarly research methodology that uses the tools of phonography and audio technology to record, edit, and produce anthropologically informed sound works that interpret culture and lived experience. The title of the program reaches to an essay by the art historian Miwon Kwon. She writes, “…an encounter with a ‘wrong place’ is likely to expose the instability of the ‘right place,’ and by extension the instability of the self.”

Recorded live on Friday, November 17th at Mengi in Reykjavík, Iceland
